Of course, my first thought was that the order was reversed — the innermost circle should be the seconds, so that the circles are similar to planets orbiting a star. I’m such a nerd sometimes.

Somehow the rest of the month since my previous post — which was also the first post on this blog — slipped by while I wasn’t looking. I hate it when that happens.

I have been keeping busy, though. I’m once again working at the community college I was working at last summer. Instead of helping to migrate the site to a new design, however, I’m maintaining the current site and helping to hold down the fort until a permanent webmaster is hired. For the past few weeks, that’s also included making updates that a few dozen users were able to make themselves, as Adobe Contribute, the content “management” system that’s in use on the site, decided it didn’t like anyone anymore. Needless to say, plans to replace it with a real CMS are no longer on the back burner.

(And, no, I don’t think I’m a likely candidate for the permanent job. No one’s come right out and said it, but it’s pretty obvious they’re looking for someone with more experience than I have right now.)

In other news, I attended my church’s men’s retreat last weekend, it’s snowed way too much and has been way too cold, and some guy I didn’t vote for became the leader of the free world. I meant to blog about that last item ten or eleven days ago, but it never happened.

Looking ahead to February, there’s plenty of stuff for me to look forward to. I’ll be attending my first Build Guild gathering this coming Monday, which will be some much-needed networking to help with the job search. I’m also going to finally start learning JavaScript, something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. And I may even work on a few side projects, as well.

Today is January 1st, 2009 — the first day in a brand-new year. Seem like a good day to make another attempt at blogging regularly again.

I’ve been a blogger off and on for the past several years, but it’s probably been four years now since I blogged regularly. It hasn’t been for lack of wanting, though; between work, the search for work, and plain old procrastination, I haven’t been able to really put any serious effort into blogging.

Which is damn weird when you consider that I’ve always enjoyed writing. Years ago, it was fiction within the context of a few online groups I’ve been involved in. (Remind me to tell you about them one of these days.) The expansion of the Internet has allowed me to be exposed to and influenced by a lot of non-fiction writing, particularly blogs. I’ve also matured, and my interests have expanded well beyond what they were when I was a nerdy college kid in the mid-’90s.

In other words, I think I have a lot to say, and I need an outlet for it. Plus, it’ll make it easy for people to keep up with me.

[And, no, Twitter doesn't count. 140 characters is rather limiting, don't you know?]

So here we are. A new year and a fresh start at this blogging thing. Let’s see if I can make it work this time, shall we?
